Year in Review

2019 has been an eventful year for Loly y sus Atrevidos de la Bachata. The band marked its 15th anniversary with a number of special events during the year (including a celebration with friends and family at a local river complete with a traditional roast-pork dinner), performed at summer festivals and other special shows and played its regular three gigs a week at La Casa de la Trova and La Casa del Cacao in Baracoa. And Loly, the ever-prolific composer, wrote a lot of new material. The band debuted several of Loly’s new tunes in its performances throughout the summer.

Exciting News

On December 11, 2019, UNESCO added Dominican Bachata to its Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Loly grew up in eastern Cuba listening to Dominican Bachata on the radio. He fell in love with the bachata rhythms. So, when he decided to form a band in Baracoa 15 years ago, he chose bachata as the group’s primary genre and Loly y sus Atrevidos de la Bachata was born. The group is grateful to all the musicians from the Dominican Republic and elsewhere who have played and promoted bachata over the years throughout the world and have inspired them to play and promote Loly’s original bachata music in Cuba.  Viva la bachata!

A Gift for You

The holiday season has begun and a new year is just around the corner. In the spirit of the season, the band has a gift for you: a new video, made in collaboration with Voxel Producciones Audiovisuales in Baracoa. It includes highlights of the band’s summer activities and introduces one of Loly’s newest songs, “Anímate”, which is already becoming a fan favourite. Enjoy listening and dancing to this new tune, a fusion of bachata and cha-cha, as you celebrate with friends and family.
